Brunstfield Tenement

This project is part of Hypostyle's term contract with City of Edinburgh Council for private property repairs throughout the City. We were awarded this term contract in June 2006.

The project is the stone work repairs and other general repairs to a prestigious corner tenement building in the Bruntsfield area of Edinburgh. The building was issued with a notice to repair from the Council when a piece of loose masonry damaged a parked car. Upon inspection by the City of Edinburgh Council, emergency scaffolding was erected due to the poor condition of the building and the dangers it posed. The project includes the removal and replacing of pediments, general stonework repairs, replacing the roof, upgrading and guttering system and removing and replacing the chimneys. The project is located within Edinburgh World Heritage Site and as part of this project we submitted a Heritage Lottery Funding application which was unfortunately unsuccessful.

We initially carried out a building inspection to determine the condition and this revealed the necessary stone repairs, chimney and roof replacement required. Due to the nature and age of the building the stonework has required detailed and intricate stone carvings and as a result a very thorough tender package was required. We have been on site for 5 months and work is progressing well.
